What is this about ?

As part of its local development plan Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council invited suggestion sites for housing , tourism and recreation. Those put forward in the Cimla area and directly adjacent to the Gnoll Country Park could spell the end for much of the woodland, greenery, and start a massive construction program for years to come.

The land affected by a number of proposed plots, indicated on the image below (click image to enlarge) , covers a vast area of open space that not only bounds the Gnoll Country Park, but contributes to the views and sense of open space, not to mention the wildlife and habitats.

The following montage shows how the landscape of Neath (viewed from Longford) would be forever changed, based on development being permited on the land indicated in the aerial photo above.

It is crucially important that as many individual as possibe comment on these proposals NOW even though this is an early stage in this process.

Tidy Wales Week - 02.07.2008

Tidy  Wales week is usually a busy event in the Gnoll Action Groups'  calendar,  but this year the community action group were out in force with the help of individuals from both the young offenders and the two packs of local Scouts.

On Wednesday 25th, the group organised a major clean up  around the old maze,  adjacent to the Gnoll country park's s fourth pond, with the help of the Briton Ferry (6th Neath) and Cwmgrach (13th Cwmgrach) scouts. Briton Ferry's scout leaders Rhian Phillips and Bethan Davies  teamed with Cwmgrach's Richard Barratt and Steve Craven to bring together a team of over 30 enthusiastic  helpers. A  fast paced litter pick was enjoyed by all, collecting in excess of 20 refuse sacks.

On the  26th, Gnoll Action Group members, with the assistance of two young offenders and Alan Powis, fly tipping officer for the borough, got stuck into the task of path clearing  adjacent to the steam at the towns memorial gates. Revealing long forgotten paving from below the surface, this effort mirrors work carried out by the group on the opposite bank earlier this year.

The group have recently launched  a new website www.gnollactiongroup.org that lists up and coming events  for anyone who is interested in getting involved.
