About Gnoll action group

Gnoll Action Group was formed by local residents concerned about litter, vandalism and the general state of disrepair (through lack of maintenance) in the Gnoll grounds, Neath, south Wales. The Gnoll grounds include the Gnoll Country Park and the War Memorial Gardens.

For many years, members had been raising issues with their local councillors and council officers, but found that as individuals, their concerns were being ignored. So the Gnoll Action Group was formed, in order to make their voices heard. The Gnoll Action Group has now become an established organisation, holding monthly meetings to decide where to concentrate their efforts.

Since March 2007, members have collected in hundreds of bags of litter & rubbish, either as individuals or in small groups on their regular walks. They have also arranged collective actions with community groups such as the scouts, allowing them to concentrate on particular areas with heavy littering.

Request's were made to council wardens for the clearing up of their work yard within the Gnoll park, and members also joined in with the planting of the Marie Curie 'Field of Hope' organised by Mr Cliff James and recently cleared the stepping stone path at the memorial gardens; an area the council had allowed to become completely overgrown.

Past projects have included petitioning the council to reinstate the gates into the Gnoll country park from the Cimla road. A petition containing over 300 signatures was handed to council officers requesting that these gates be closed at the same times as the Fairyland entrance gates to the park in an effort to combat the high levels of litter, fly tipping, vandalism and noise disturbance that the residents suffer on a regular basis.

Actions are also planned with local Sea Scouts, Air cadets, Territorial Army cadets and local Scout troops to remove rubbish from the stream behind Cimla Crescent, working down from Cimla common to Preswylva dingle. This is being coordinated by Keep Wales Tidy fly tipping officer, Mr Alan Powis.

Gnoll Action Group is affiliated to Keep Wales Tidy. By actively combating littering, and by including and educating younger members in our organised events, we hope to improve our local environment for everyone to enjoy.
